My name is Pete and I'm a 'Duffer' .... Proud of it too. That's why I created the FORE the DUFFER Golf Blog.

I've been playing golf for over 20 years and have enjoyed every round played. After all, it's just a game! Yea right, if you believe that then I have a bridge I'll sell you. I wasn't always a Duffer. At first I thought I was a golfer or worse a hacker. Little did I know that I was really a Duffer. It took me years to learn that but now that I've said it out loud I feel like a large weight has lifted from my ego. I wish I could say that I am now playing within myself, taking my medicine, playing smart when in the trees and rough, staying nice and smooth, and accepting the results but alas I have not reached that golfer's nirvana. Little did I know when I picked up that first club, and got hooked, that golf is the hardest game to master.

I have however, come to terms with my golf game and now enjoy the moments out on the links. I take everything in stride and somehow always find one or more shots that bring me back. Course, now that I'm retired, I have the luxury of plugging away at my game more often. I choose to play 3 times a week with other retirees during work days in order to stay away from the crowds on weekends. I have chosen to share my passion, fanaticism, views, experiences, joys, and frustrations for the game of golf on the FORE the DUFFER Golf Blog. If you're hooked on golf like I am then please visit the blog. I think you'll find something that you can relate to and by all means do not hesitate to participate by leaving your thoughts. All posts are anonymous and do not require you to leave any personal information.

It's been said that Duffers uphold the traditions of the game, play for enjoyment, respect the rules, maintain a sense of humor, and are honest about their golf game. We just don't execute as well as some other golfers. Duffers have not always been looked at kindly over the years. We even take a back seat to hackers. I for one do not subscribe to the abuse we Duffers have been subjected to over the years. Some people describe a Duffer as someone who is content to go out once a week or less and shoot high scores, throw clubs around the course, curse and fret. Actions like that gives everyone a bad name and by no means does it describe a true Duffer. You should always remember that golf is primarily a game played for pleasure. If you agree, share your views on the blog with other Duffers, hackers, and golfers.

Let's explore some of the definitions of "duffer".

About.com:golf definition: A bad golfer. Duffer is a derogatory term applied to poor players in general. Savannah Morning News golf writer Adam Van Brimmer who describes himself as "The Average Duffer" would take offense to that definition. He doesn't boast an official handicap, buys his balls by the mesh bag at Wal-Mart, and says a good round is breaking 100 and finding more balls than he loses. Now, I for one like Adam's attitude.

Wikipedia defines Duffer as invisible dwarfs in the Chronicles of Narnia or in Australian English, a cattle rustler. I've been called a lot of things but an invisible dwarf or cattle rustler is surely not one of them. Course, being invisible might be fun ...

Give the blog a shot and when you're done, you might want to take some time and visit the golf store, golf book store, check out some tee times for central California, gifts, hot deals, links, and travel services. Shall we play a game ... ? See you on the links.
